“Follow your passion to your dreams” -SKEA

I met Diane Boyer and learned about her company, SKEA Limited, deciding to enter the golf market at the PGA Show in January.  Her line caught my eye and the minute I touched her fabrics and saw her samples, I knew I would be telling you about her golf-specific line when it launched, which it did recently.

You may have heard of SKEA if you participate in snow sports.  They call themselves “The Luxury Mountain Lifestyle Brand” and have been around for nearly 50 years.  Diane, president of SKEA, has created a golf line I think captures the characteristics we all crave … her pieces are unique and offer classic styling and a great fit.  Her prints are a classy breath of fresh air.  You can tell there is something special about this line the minute you see it.

Here’s a little background on SKEA

Founders Georges and Jocelyn Boyer grew up in France and Canada and loved skiing.   Jocelyn was the first to wear a one-piece suit at Stratton Mountain, Vermont in the late 1960’s.   In 1972 SKEA was born as a combination of the words “SKI” and “SEA”, hence “SKEA”, as the business plan included having a summer and winter collection.

The little family company that began as a “fun” business grew up in Vail, Colorado.   SKEA’s office, warehouse and showroom now is in Golden, Colorado but Diane lives in Vail and has since 1977.  She grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Stratton Mountain and graduated from Dartmouth in 1978.  She took over SKEA in 1995 after working together with her parents since 1972.  SKEA is a female owned and run company with female designers and female fit experts.  They make what other reviewers have called “chic and functional performance skiwear”, activewear, and now golf apparel.

My outfit arrived the other day and I couldn’t be happier with the fit (fits true to size) and pattern.  I wore the turquoise floral sleeveless top and coordinating 15″ skort on a day when the temp hit 105 degrees on the course.  Several friends who know I am often trying out new lines were excited to see this new outfit from SKEA.  Best of all, this outfit was comfortable during one of the Mojave Desert’s hottest summer days.  All of the items I have seen from this line are high-quality performance fabrics and offer sun protection, and are water and wind resistant.  I’m told they  “professionally lab and wear-test to assure durability and protection from the elements” which makes sense since the company’s roots are in skiwear.
